Norman A. Williams

Lyons / Rochester - Mr. Norman A. Williams, 76 of
Rochester died peacefully on Friday (January 6, 2012)
surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of Norm's life and a reception will be held
at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1040 East Ave.,
Rochester on Tuesday (January 10th) at 4PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his
memory to the Norman Williams Scholarship Fund for
the School of Art & Design c/o the Development Office at
the Rochester Institute of Technology, 1 Lomb Memorial
Dr., Rochester, NY 14623.
Norm was born in Newark on July 27, 1935, the son of
the late Ashley & Pauline Williams. He was a dedicated
teacher and mentor. Norm graduated from Syracuse
University with a Masters of Science in Art Education,
and taught studio art in the Lyons Public Schools from
1958 to 1973. He was a professor and Program
Coordinator of the graduate Art Education Program and
Chairperson of the Foundation Program in the College of
Fine Arts and Applied Sciences at the Rochester Institute
of Technology, until his retirement in 2001. He was an
accomplished artist, devoted husband and proud father.
He enjoyed music, art poetry, nature, travel and sharing
his love of learning with others.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Sardisco; children Ian
Williams, Brian (Terri) Williams, Keith Williams, Lynn
(Joe) Firendino, Cheryl (Kevin) Graham, Michele (Gary)
Worek and AFS exchange son Dhammika (Venus)
Perera, his mother Pauline Williams; grandchildren
Nicole Firendino, Ashley & Reid McIlwain, Jessica & Eric
Graham. Benjamin & Rebecca Williams; brothers Wayne
(Marlene) Williams, Ron (Carol) Williams, a sister,
Sharon (Gil) Mayo; sister-in-law Sandy (Paul) Foery;
brother-in-law Ron (Linda) Sardisco; mother-in-law
Florence Sardisco; numerous nieces, nephews and
devoted friends.
Norm was pre-deceased by his father, Ashley Williams.
